The "Leica Look" is real!
After shooting with a Leica M10 and Leica prime lenses almost exclusively for a year, I now well understand the "Leica Look". The compact Leica rangefinder and Leica lenses have produced some of the world's most iconic photographs. Now that I own a Leica, I am really enjoying the shooting experience and most importantly, the image quality.
I must admit that re-learning how to manually focus was very challenging after becoming so used to the fast autofocus of my Fuji X cameras. The percentage of sharp images was very low during the first week that I owned the Leica. It didn't take long to get focusing down and to use zone focusing for street photography. Manual focusing works fine for my shooting style as I don't normally shoot fast action like sports or need long lenses for wildlife. However, we did attend the Atlantic City Air Show in the summer. For this event, I used my Fuji X gear with the excellent Fuji XF 16-55 and 100-400 zoom lenses. For this reason, I plan on keeping my Fuji X system.
Leica images have rich color, detail, sharpness and micro-contrast that seem to give the images a 3D "pop" whether viewed on screen or in print. Please check out my recent Australia and New Zealand portfolios for images shot exclusively with my Leica M10 and four prime lenses: a Summilux 50mm, Summicron 35mm and 75mm, and Super Elmar 18mm. During this travel vacation, the Summicron 35mm was the most used lens followed by the Summicron 75mm.
